The Salem College tennis team lost their first match of the season on the road to the University of South Carolina Lancaster 9-0. Kerri Morgan (Walnut Cove, NC) played both number 1 singles and doubles for the Spirits in the loss. Salem falls to 0-1 on the season.
Salem College recently named Mike Dryman as the new head coach for tennis and director of sports performance. Dryman will lead Salem’s tennis team and oversee strength and conditioning for Salem’s seven varsity sports teams.
Director of Athletics Melissa Barrett announced the promotion of Betsy Pryor to Associate Director of Athletics for Salem College. Pryor will continue her roles as Director of Aquatics, Director of Compliance, and a Physical Education Instructor.
The Salem College tennis team lost their final match of the season to conference opponent Maryville College (7-2). The Spirits played their third game in as many days on a long road trip that took them through Georgia and Tennessee. Salem ends the season with a 7-7 overall record, and 1-6 record in the Great South Athletic Conference where they finished seventh.
The Salem College tennis team barely lost an important Great South Athletic Conference match at Piedmont College, 4-5. The loss eliminates Salem's hopes of reaching the GSAC Tournament next week hosted by LaGrange. Salem falls to 1-5 in the conference and to 7-6 overall, while Piedmont improves to 4-10 overall.
The Salem College tennis team cruised to their first Great South Athletic Conference victory this year against Georgia Wesleyan (9-0). Wesleyan was held to winning only 7 total games in the match by the Spirits. Katherine Elliott (Edenton, NC) did not lose a game in either the number one singles position or in the number one doubles match where she teamed with Kim Wisen (Madison, OH). Salem moves to 7-5 overall with the victory, and to 1-4 in the GSAC.
The Salem College tennis team honored four-year player, Kim Wisen (Madison, OH), in her final home match yesterday. Wisen has been a four-year tennis and soccer player at Salem. The Spirits team was not able to pick up a win in a 8-1 loss to Great South opponent, Spelman College. Salem drops to 0-4 in the conference, and their overall record is now 6-5.
The Salem College tennis team dropped two home conference matches this weekend. Salem lost to Huntingdon College on Saturday (0-9), and they fell to Agnes Scott College on Sunday (0-9). Salem drops to 6-4 overall and to 0-3 in the Great South Athletic Conference.
The Salem College tennis team lost their first Great South Athletic Conference match (GSAC) against LaGrange, 1-8. The Spirits were playing without their number one, three, and five players in the loss. Salem moves to 6-2 overall, and they drop to 0-1 in the GSAC.
The Salem College tennis team won their fifth match in a row with a 6-3 victory against Ferrum College. This completes the Spirits season sweep of Ferrum. Salem improves to 6-1 on the season, while Ferrum drops to 1-4.
