Our Commitments
Gender Inclusivity and EDI
At Salem Academy and College, we believe that equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential to our mission of developing the next generation of leaders who will make the world a better, healthier, and more equitable place.
Diversity & Inclusion
Finding solutions to complex problems comes from having people around the table who have diverse perspectives. At Salem, we are proud of the diversity of our student body because we know that a variety of perspectives creates opportunities for learning and growth.
Salem College is consistently ranked among the nation’s best colleges for advancing social mobility and for financial diversity. Approximately half of our students are students of color, with significant socio-economic diversity across our student body. This aligns with our 250+ year commitment to creating exceptional educational opportunities for students who have not historically had equal access to higher learning.
Gender Equity
As the nation’s oldest continuously operating educational institution for women and girls in the United States, Salem Academy and College centers its educational and campus experiences on girls and women. As a women’s college in a society with changing understandings of gender identity and fluidity, Salem College strives to be a welcoming, gender-inclusive space while focusing our experience on those who are female or who identify as such.
