Council of Independent Colleges Appoints Salem Academy and College President to Serve on Board of Directors

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JAN. 18, 2024) -The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) recently nominated Salem Academy and College President Summer J. McGee to join its board of directors. McGee will serve a two-year term from January 2024 to January 2026.

CIC is an association of 765 nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils, and higher education affiliates that works to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of independent higher education’s contributions to society.

As the major national organization that focuses on providing services to leaders of independent colleges and universities and state-based councils, CIC offers conferences, seminars, publications, and other programs that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility.

“I’m honored to join a distinguished group of college presidents and higher education leaders from around the nation to support the work of CIC President Marjorie Hass who works tirelessly to advance independent higher education institutions and to articulate their impactful role in the higher education industry and in our society,” McGee said.

In her role as a CIC board member, McGee will help strengthen independent colleges and universities and support campus leaders on current priorities and challenges facing higher education.

“It is more important than ever that our society appreciates the impact that independent higher education has in terms of workforce development, economic impact, and preparing the next generation of leaders our society needs,” McGee said.

“At a time when the value of higher education is all too often questioned, CIC provides important thought leadership on these matters as well as support for independent college presidents and other higher education leaders. I am proud to help support the mission of CIC,” she added.
