Salem College Ranked Among Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the Nation

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JAN. 29, 2024)-Recognized by U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2024, Washington Monthly College Rankings 2023, and the New York Times Magazine as one of America’s top liberal arts colleges, Salem College is the clear leader for giving students a pathway to leadership and career success. 

“These new rankings just reaffirm what Salem graduates have known for more than 250 years: Salem College transforms the lives of its students, and is among the most successful institutions in the nation at recruiting, successfully graduating, and preparing students for flourishing careers across all socioeconomic backgrounds,” Salem Academy and College President Summer McGee, PhD, CPH said. 

“At Salem, everyone is focused on student success. So, we are particularly proud of the fact that Washington Monthly College Rankings 2023 ranked Salem College No. 8 in the nation among all liberal arts colleges for the predicted earnings of our graduates,” McGee added.

Many recent rankings highlight how effective Salem College has been at enrolling and graduating students from diverse economic and social backgrounds. New York Times Magazine ranked Salem College No. 2 for economic diversity, a reflection of Salem’s innovative scholarships, leadership training, and commitment to ensure that a Salem degree is accessible and affordable. 

Since 1772, Salem has helped students rise and lead, as they find the strength, skills, and drive to succeed. U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2024 ranked Salem College No. 2 in the country for social mobility, a measure of how effective Salem is at enrolling and graduating Pell-eligible students in four years. Washington Monthly’s rankings of Salem as No. 4 in the nation for Pell-eligible graduation rate and No. 14 best bang for your buck among colleges in the southeast. 

Washington Monthly also ranked Salem as the No. 24 liberal arts college in the U.S. overall. Other notable rankings include Forbes’ selection of Salem College as a ‘Top 10 pick for online school counseling master’s programs.’ Salem’s school counseling program prepares students to become licensed school counselors, a career in high demand across North Carolina and the nation. Forbes also recognized Salem College as one of the best online master’s in educational leadership programs. Salem’s educational leadership program prepares educators to become principals and to pursue other leadership roles within a school district.
