Salem College, Elon University School of Law Partner to Create Accelerated Dual Degree Program

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (DECEMBER 7, 2022)—Salem College and Elon University School of Law have partnered to create an accelerated dual-degree option for Salem students seeking to earn an accelerated combination of Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate degrees. With the Salem-Elon accelerated BA/BS+JD, students can receive both degrees in five and a half years, rather than the usual seven years, saving a significant amount of time and money.

Students enrolled in the program will complete their major and core at Salem, after which a portion of their law coursework from Elon School of Law will be transferred to Salem in fulfillment of the undergraduate degree. In order to complete the dual degrees, students must meet the requirements for admission to Elon, including satisfactory scores on the LSAT. All applicants are interviewed by Elon Law faculty and staff as part of the law school’s comprehensive approach to admissions.

“Salem College is pleased to be part of this exciting partnership with Elon Law to offer a program that will accelerate entry of women leaders into the legal profession,” Salem Academy and College President Summer J. McGee, Ph.D. said. “The new program will provide clear pathways for Salem students to pursue their professional goals, including those who may want a career that combines health and law.”

Interim Dean of Elon University School of Law Alan Woodlief, J.D. noted that “Elon Law counts several wonderful Salem graduates among our students and alumni, and we are excited about the potential to further build the relationship between our two institutions.” The Salem-Elon accelerated BA/BS+JD is “in keeping with Elon Law’s commitment to making legal education more affordable and accessible,” he said.

Salem College’s pre-professional programs, including its pre-law program, prepare students for the rigorous course of study experienced in law school. A variety of Salem majors are suited for the Accelerated Law Degree Program, including political science, history, English, communication and Health Leadership-focused majors such as public health, health communication, and health advocacy and humanitarian systems.
