Dr. Nancy Matthews

Dr. Matthews is originally from New Jersey. She moved to Gainesville, Florida while in high school, then went on to study at the University of Florida. She worked for five years as an elementary and middle school counselor before moving to California to teach at California State University, Bakersfield. Upon moving to North Carolina, she served as an academic advisor for a local community college before joining the faculty of Salem College in 2017. Dr. Matthews enjoys teaching and advising in the School Counseling program and providing service at the local and state level. Current service includes memberships on the NC School Counseling Strategic Leadership Team, NC School Counselor Association Delegate Assembly (2018), Stokes Mental Health District Team, and IRB (Institutional Review Board) of Wake Forest School of Medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Matthews enjoys combining her passions for international travel and service to others. She has recently completed volunteer trips in Ecuador (Quito), Portugal (Lisbon), and Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls). Future trips are planned!
