Position Summary

The Campus Engagement Librarian will be responsible for leading Gramley Library’s outreach services and programs to all campus constituents; supporting the library’s educational mission by participating in its information-literacy program and related activities; and actively contributing to the library’s goal of offering library student workers opportunities to become career-ready and to expand their portfolios by managing specific tasks and projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promotes student success through targeted outreach efforts to inform students about the range of academic resources available to them.
  • Identifies non-traditional target groups for library support (e.g., Academy; staff; alumnae).
  • Provides support for faculty (e.g., grant-writing, supporting teaching and research needs).
  • Showcases unique information through a variety of formats.
  • Regularly assesses library programs and services.
  • With the director of libraries, provides relevant course-related instruction to Salem College students.
  • Assists campus departments in locating needed information.
  • Participates in the library’s new student-development program.
  • Provides a range of public services including hiring and managing student assistants and directing the work of evening staff.
  • Works closely with members of other student-success units or departments located in the library: Writing Center; Nest; QUEST; Accessibility Services; IT.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite or Google Docs suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in an academic library or in a higher-ed environment.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Canva or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.

 

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Campus Engagement Librarian, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
