Meet Cassie Jo
Originally from a small town in Tickfaw, La., Cassie Jo Cunningham is a proud Salem College alumna who credits Salem for the woman she is today. While at Salem, Cassie Jo majored in Biology with a minor in Spanish, and after graduating in 2022, she now leads Salem College’s admissions department as the Director of Admissions.
Tell us about your role at Salem
As the Director of Admissions, I understand firsthand the transformative power of a Salem education. My experience as a student fuels my commitment to guiding prospective students through the admissions process. Whether I am connecting with families on campus or supporting applicants behind the scenes, I am dedicated to helping future Salem students find their place here. What I love most about my job is that I get to be a part of each student’s unique story – walking alongside them as they discover their path and watching them flourish during their time at Salem and beyond.
How is Salem’s Health Leadership focus is making an impact in the world?
Our unique health leadership focus is making a meaningful impact locally and making an impact on the world. We offer a number of resources and programs that allow students who are passionate about health leadership to learn skills and knowledge cultivating a new generation of leaders who are equipped to drive positive change in their communities.
Why did you choose Salem?
Choosing Salem College was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made. When looking for colleges, it was important for me to earn a degree and also find a place that has community, felt like home, and had a space where I could grow into the woman I wanted to become. From the moment I stepped onto campus I felt a sense of belonging. There was something magical about the way the faculty and staff – and students supported each other, and I knew, without a doubt, I wanted to be a part of that.
From your perspective, why is Salem a remarkable place?
Salem is a remarkable place because not only does it offer a great education, but it also offers purpose, confidence, and freedom for students to explore who they are and who they can be. Salem gives students a sense of empowerment they will take with them for the rest of their lives. The Salem community feels like family from students, faculty, staff and alumnae. The relationships built because of Salem is truly unmatched.
What makes Salem’s students remarkable and stand out from the crowd?
Salem students are remarkable and always stand out from the crowd. They know how to use their voice and be heard. They are bold, inquisitive, intentional and resilient. They pursue their passions with confidence and advocate for themselves and others. Our students go on to change the world.
