Welcome Gary and Kristine Daynes
The Salem community is delighted to welcome Dr. Gary Daynes as our interim President. Gary’s arrival in July felt like a happy homecoming, as faculty and staff had the honor of working with Gary a couple of years ago when he filled a variety of key institutional roles.
In a recent conversation, Gary shared the following fun facts about himself:
- Ran 4 marathons and 2 ultramarathons
- Collects pottery, cowboy boots, and landscape paintings by women artists
- Loves visiting small town community festivals
- Has a forthcoming book called “How to be a Small College”
Gary’s wife Kristine is an educational consultant with Back Porch Consulting. After 17 years with 3M Health Information Systems in marketing and commercial operations, her focus now is the well-being of schools, arts organizations, and other community nonprofits. Gary and Kristine enjoy walking their dog Alfie along Winston-Salem’s beautiful trails and spending time with their four young-adult children.
