Salem is the perfect fit: both a sisterhood and an intellectual haven. When I was a senior in high school, I did not imagine myself attending a women’s college. Salem wasn’t on my radar until my admissions counselor came to my school. Next thing I knew I was invited to campus to interview for scholarships. That visit did it for me. My first year was fantastic! My favorite Salem tradition is the way the year kicks off with the Opening Convocation and Picnic. The entire community comes together. Talk about sisterhood. As we first-years processed into the auditorium, we heard chants of “We love you, first-years!!!” What a wonderful way to be welcomed to Salem! My first year at Salem gave me the opportunity to further pursue my interests in politics and creative writing. I joined clubs like Model United Nations and Young Americans for Liberty, which allowed me to attend national conferences in Washington, DC, and New York. I was also able to read poetry (with support from my friends) at one of our many open mic nights. I have really enjoyed mentoring the new first-years. I am also excited about studying abroad at Harlaxton College in England as a this coming school year. I can’t wait!
