How To Get Your Student Job!

Employment Checklist

To apply for student worker jobs on campus including federal work study, please follow this process:
  • Review the student employment opportunities listed below on this website.  Open positions are only available for Salem College students.
  • Complete the online application in our Paycom system using the Apply Here link provided with each job summary.
    • Note:  To the question about reliable transportation, please check “yes” since you live/come to campus for classes.  These are questions we use in all job applications for student workers and employees.  If you don’t answer “yes” to all questions on the “let’s get started” page, it will not allow you to submit the application to us.
  • If you are selected for interview by the hiring manager, the hiring manager will reach out to you individually typically via email.
  • If you are selected for the role by the hiring manager, you will complete the required paperwork with the hiring manager which includes two (2) documents: signing the job description and signing the 2025-2026 student employment assignment and acknowledgement statement.
    • Your supervisor will share the official job description with you and ask you to sign it.
    • You and your supervisor have view only access to the 2025-2026 student employment form through the link above.  Please download, complete, and sign.
    • The hiring manager will return the signed job description and the 2025-2026 student employment form to Human Resources by emailing these two (2) documents to:  JaNae Joyner – janae.joyner@salem.edu and Elizabeth Bragg – elizabeth.bragg@salem.edu.  This confirms that the hiring manager has approved your candidacy for hire for this student worker role.
  • Please ensure the hiring manager sends the signed paperwork over to JaNae Joyner and Elizabeth Bragg in Human Resources via email
  • Set up a meeting with Human Resources by contacting Elizabeth Bragg (elizabeth.bragg@salem.edu)  and JaNae Joyner  (janae.joyner@salem.edu)
  • Complete onboarding through an in-person meeting with Elizabeth Bragg or JaNae Joyner in Human Resources.
    • IMPORTANT:  A student must receive approval from Human Resources (either Elizabeth Bragg and/or JaNae Joyner) in order to begin their role even if you have been a student worker in a previous year.
    • If you are a student who have never worked with Salem before, you must bring appropriate and original (not copies) of  I-9 documents to Human Resources to complete onboarding.
      • Acceptable I-9 documents to bring can be found at this LINK.
  • Record your time through the Paycom system for the dates/times determined between you and your supervisor.  You will be shown how to do this in the Paycom App during your onboarding with Human Resources.
  • Receive payment

Student Employment Opportunities

Student Athletic Assistant

Job Summary:  The Student Athletic Assistant position is a role that will assist the athletic department (Academy and College) in accomplishing functions necessary for athletic excellence.  Duties may include:  office work, game management, concessions, statistics, scoreboard, assisting the athletic trainer, photography, videography, game day operations, making posters and graphics. Assignments may be placed by the director of athletics, the assistant director of athletics, the athletic trainer, the sports information director, and the coaches. There is office work as well as evening work to support the athletic home events.  The work to be performed is quite diverse in nature. Attendance to assigned shifts is required.

Student - Residential Life Campus Assistant

Job Summary:  Residence Life is responsible for providing a safe and nurturing living-learning environment for residential students.  Duties and responsibilities include: 1) Promoting activities through social media; 2) Assisting with lockouts; 3) Educating residents about housing procedures; 4) Covering office hours; 5) Staffing the Campus Care Hub; 6) Building community throughout the residential population; 7) Greet guests and ensure they have signed in properly; 8) Assist RA by notifying them of who is visiting in which room; 9).  Manage equipment, product inventory, and check out.

Student Technical Assistant

Job Summary:  This Student Technical Assistant position provides support for events by setting up and breaking down equipment, assisting with audio/visual needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of events. This position may also assist with proper set-up and arrangement of equipment, table, chairs, furniture etc. on campus as a result of events. This student technical assistant may also keeps track of inventory in the building and assist with other projects deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Events and Community Outreach.

Art, Design, and Chair Library Student Assistant

Job Summary:  The Art, Design, and Chair Library student assistant will assist with setup and cleanup tasks for the Art and Design Department, helping to maintain an organized and functional workspace for classes, events, and exhibitions. Responsibilities also include working in the Chair Library including the potential of tours with external guests.

Student Activities Office Assistants

Job Summary:  The Student Activities Office Assistants will support the general operations for the Office of the Dean of Students/Student Activities by providing front-line customer service and reception for students, faculty, and staff in the Student Center. The Office Assistants will also complete specific projects and duties for the professional Student Activities Staff in support of the day to day operations and events in Student Activities and/or Student Center.

Operations Student Worker

Job Summary:  Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Operations, as an essential employee, the Operations Student Worker will be assigned to one of the four departments within Operations (Grounds, Custodial Mail Services, and Maintenance) as needed. While assigned to a department, the Operations Student Worker will report to the supervisor/lead of each respective department while performing assigned work. Once assigned, the Operations Student Operations Student Worker will commonly provide routine grounds maintenance, housekeeping, and maintenance functions and any other duties assigned. Operations Student Worker must be physically able to perform tasks appropriately.

QUEST Tutors

Job Summary:  Salem College is dedicated to the academic success of its students.  We’re seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Tutor in our Quest Tutoring Program to join our team and provide personalized support to students of various ages and skill levels.  This includes:  1) Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions in various subjects, including but not limited to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish and other subjects needing support; 2) Assess students’ strengths and weaknesses to tailor lessons and improve their understanding of key concepts; 3) Develop and implement engaging lesson plans and practice exercises that align with curriculum standards.; 4) Assist students with homework, test preparation, and project completion; 5) Monitor and track student progress, offering constructive feedback and adjusting teaching methods as needed; 6) Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that builds students’ confidence and enthusiasm for their subject.

Required Qualifications:  1) Experience in relevant field demonstrated by successful completion of courses in the topic of study, recommendations from faculty of the specific discipline or equivalent experience; 2) Proven experience as a tutor or educator, preferably with experience in the relevant subjects; 3) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; 4) Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and relatable manner; 5) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; 6) Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and helping students succeed.

Academy Weekend Desk Assistant

Job Summary:  The Academy Weekend Desk Assistant is responsible for assisting the Academy Residence Life team. This position will be divided into weekend shifts and sometimes weekday evening shifts.  Duties and responsibilities include:  1) Assist with student check-in/check-out; 2) Answer phones in a professional manner; 3) Answer students’ questions when possible or direct them to the appropriate person; 4) Keeping the area organized; 5) Willingness to transport and ability to drive school vehicles needed to transport students as needed; 6) Other duties as assigned.
