Position Summary:
The Director of Student Advocacy, Conduct, and Compliance promotes retention and continuity of care for Salem College students. This position reports to the Dean of Students to manage student conduct, the administrative response to student issues and crisis management, investigations, accommodations related to residential life and campus and the provision of campus and community resources to support student needs. The Director of Student Advocacy, Conduct and Compliance is a 12-month, full-time staff position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Conduct and Accountability
- Develops a restorative and educational philosophy of student accountability, create and maintain policy for student conduct, and oversee the implementation of objective and timely accountability and judicial processes
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Conduct and Support, including investigations, mediations, adjudications, and sanctions
- Responds to crisis and emergency situations promptly and effectively
- Intervenes to assist students in resolving conflicts
- Works with and advises the student-led Judicial Council and Honor Council
- Handles case management by providing support services and guidance to students facing challenges that may hinder their academic success or well-being.
- Prepares periodic reports of student conduct patterns and trends.
- Responds to inquiries from external agencies (including other colleges and employers) and provides confidential student record information consistent with College protocol and FERPA.
- Partners with the Dean of Students to interpret and explain campus policies and requirements to students, faculty, parents and other stakeholders.
Compliance and Accessibility
- Conducts Title IX investigations and ensures all investigations comply with legal and campus requirements
- Works with Student Accessibility Services and Residence Life on medical accommodation requests for housing, dining, emotional support animals, and other accommodation requests related to the residential experience.
- Stays current and informed regarding relevant higher education trends, best practices, and regulatory matters.
- Serves as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act
General
- Participates in various campus committees, including but not limited to the Early Alert Team, Orientation Committee, Threat Assessment Team, etc.
- Works cooperatively with the Student Affairs team, Academic Affairs, Public Safety, and other campus partners.
- Participates in New Student Orientations and other campus events as needed
- Keeps accurate conduct and compliance records
- Participates in an on-call rotation with other Division of Student Affairs staff
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience
- Ability to manage details and follow through to ensure timely responses
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the following: Google Suite, EAB Navigate, PowerCampus, and Excel
- Ability to work extended hours (evenings, nights and weekends) as needed
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy and sound judgment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate, graduate, or professional experience in a conduct, care, accessibility, or case management position such as graduate assistantship, internship, or similar experience.
- Experience with administrative disciplinary proceedings or prior adjudication experience at a college or university.
- Experience advising, coaching, or mentoring students.
