Salem Academy and College is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a vibrant college
town known as the “City of Arts and Innovation,” Winston-Salem is a lively academic
community, home to six institutions of higher education and more than 26,000 students. Winston
Salem has a collaborative and engaged academic community with strong private and public
schools, excellent healthcare systems, and affordable housing. The Winston-Salem area also
offers a rich variety of cultural opportunities and has a vibrant art and restaurant scene. Within a

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director of the Lucy Rose Center will coordinate the
implementation of a college-to-career readiness program that will support the successful
achievement of students’ life and career goals in the global 21 st century.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Career Services, aligned with the student affairs division and the college’s overall goals.
  • Design, implement, and assess comprehensive career development and graduate school preparation programs, workshops, events, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Design, execute, and interpret internship programs and policies, maintaining inclusiveness and following legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Develop and present individual and group advising around career exploration, developing plans of  study, major selection, and admission requirements for graduate and professional school, conduct  mock interviews and other preparatory workshops, and assist with facilitating committee letters for  professional schools in partnership with Health Sciences faculty.
  • Provide personalized graduate school and career counseling and coaching to students and alums.
  • Provide guidance on personal statement writing, academic interviewing, standardized test preparation strategies, and graduate school exploration.
  • Provide guidance on resume writing, interviewing, job search strategies, and career exploration.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate career development and graduate school preparation into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with faculty to help support students applying for National Competitive Scholarships (i.e., Fulbright, Rhodes, Marshall).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national employers to enhance internship and job placement opportunities for students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, national, and international graduate school admissions counselors to enhance graduate school access and opportunities for students.
  • Develop and maintain a network of alums who can serve as mentors, internship supervisors, and potential employers.
  • Coordinate on-campus career/internship/graduate school fairs and networking opportunities that connect students with potential employers and career mentors.
  • Track and report employment and graduate school outcomes through the First Destinations survey model, using data to continually improve services and demonstrate the effectiveness of career programs.
  • Assist the Dean of Students in assessing Key Performance Indicators related to Student Success and Career Readiness, such as student engagement and satisfaction, academic progress, retention, persistence through graduation, and job and graduate school placement. 
  • Manage the department’s budget.
  • Participate in various campus committees e.g., Orientation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Six years of related work experience
  • Health professions advising experience and/or professional work experience in health-related organizations or fields
  • Self-directed and demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including international students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and emerging issues in student development and career services
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Any degree in a health-related field
Physical Functions:

While performing the responsibilities of the Director, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
