Salem Academy and College Names Kevan L. Turman Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Salem Academy parent and Winston-Salem advancement leader brings more than 20 years of experience to the role
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — September 30, 2026 — Salem Academy and College has named Kevan L. Turman its next Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Turman, whose daughter graduated from Salem Academy in 2026, brings a personal connection to Salem and more than two decades of fundraising and advancement leadership in higher education and independent schools.
Turman currently serves as Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation at Winston-Salem State University. There, he leads fundraising, alumni engagement, advancement services, and foundation operations. He has worked with local leaders, elected officials, organizations, and supporters to connect philanthropic investment with institutional priorities. His service on the boards of United Way of Forsyth County and Leadership Winston-Salem reflects his commitment to the community and his ability to build relationships on its behalf.

He also knows Winston-Salem and the extraordinary generosity of this community,” said Dr. Jill Fleuriet, president of Salem Academy and College. “Kevan builds relationships. He brings people together around ideas that matter. And he understands that the strongest philanthropy begins with a genuine connection to mission. He will help us tell Salem’s story to more people and build the relationships that will strengthen both the Academy and College for years to come.”
At Salem, Turman will lead fundraising and engagement efforts in partnership with alumnae, donors, families, and community supporters. He will work with institutional leaders to align philanthropy with priorities that advance student opportunities and Salem’s long-term future.
Before joining Winston-Salem State, Turman held leadership roles at Concord Academy, AIM Academy, Lincoln University, Grambling State University, and the University of Delaware. His experience includes leading capital and endowment campaigns, securing scholarship support, expanding alumni giving, and developing advancement teams. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lincoln University and serves on the boards of United Way of Forsyth County and Leadership Winston-Salem.
“Having spent many years on Salem’s advancement team, I’ve seen firsthand how much our alumnae, donors, and friends care about this institution,” said LeeAnn Manning, Acting Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Kevan shares that commitment. As a Salem Academy parent, he knows the difference Salem can make in a student’s life, and he brings the experience and Winston-Salem relationships to build support for both the Academy and the College.”
Turman’s connection to Salem began when his family chose Salem Academy for their daughter, who graduated in 2026 and is now a first-year student at North Carolina A&T State University.
“Salem is woven into my family’s life. We’ve seen the confidence, community, and opportunities it gives young women, and I come to this role with both a parent’s gratitude and an advancement leader’s sense of responsibility,” said Turman. “I look forward to working with Salem’s alumnae, families, donors, and community partners to strengthen support for students and help both the Academy and College thrive.”
Turman will begin his role on October 15.
