Screens as Canvas: A New Partnership Showcases Student-Created Functional Art at Market

Salem College, in collaboration with Screen Gems Furniture & Accessories and ANDMORE, is proud to introduce Screens as Canvas, an innovative partnership that transforms decorative folding screens into one-of-a-kind works of functional art. This unique initiative bridges industry expertise with academic creativity, offering students the opportunity to design, paint, and present original pieces for a global furniture market audience.

Rooted in Salem College’s commitment to artistic excellence, experiential learning, and women’s leadership, Screens as Canvas empowers emerging artists to develop their creative voices while gaining real-world design experience. Each screen reflects the individuality of its creator, showcasing diverse styles, concepts, and techniques while elevating the traditional folding screen into a collectible art object.

ANDMORE plays a vital role in supporting the initiative by providing a premier venue and securing a dedicated exhibition space at High Point Market. For the first time, Salem College will present the Screens as Canvas collection in its own space at the Suites at Market Square, Suite T-729 (third level), during market dates April 24–29. This milestone marks a significant moment for the program, expanding visibility and creating new opportunities for student artists to engage with industry professionals, buyers, and collectors.

All featured screens will be available for purchase, offering a rare opportunity to acquire distinctive, artist-designed pieces that can transform any interior environment. Proceeds from sales directly support the participating student artists and the Design Program at Salem College, reinforcing the program’s mission to foster creativity, innovation, and professional growth.

Screens as Canvas represents a dynamic model of collaboration between education and industry—one that champions emerging talent while introducing fresh, limited-edition designs to the marketplace.
