Salem Academy and College Shares Winter Weather Plan

Tuesday, February 3

• Students: Classes for both Salem Academy and Salem College will be held remotely. Students are welcome to return to campus on Tuesday to resume in-person classes on Wednesday.

• Employees:

  • All non-essential employees are expected to work remotely and should limit coming to campus in order to allow essential staff to ensure the safety of the campus environment.

  • Essential employees are expected to report to work on their normal schedules and should communicate with their supervisor if weather-related challenges arise.

• The campus remains closed to external guests and internal and external activities until Wednesday February 4 at 6:00am.

Wednesday February 4

• Students: Classes for both Salem Academy and Salem College will be held in-person.  If you are unable to return to campus, please communicate directly with your faculty members so appropriate accommodations can be made.   The Academy will share additional information about plans for Wednesday via a forthcoming email from the Head of School.

• Employees:  Normal campus operations will resume and faculty/staff are expected to report to work per their normal schedules. If you are unable to travel to campus due to travel concerns, please work with your direct supervisor regarding other work arrangements.

• Parking on campus is more limited since Church Street and the Old Salem area has not been plowed by the City.  As a result, please students and employees should park in the FAC parking lot or the Pit (near the tennis courts).  Pathways from these parking lots are clear for walking to buildings on campus.

• The campus will open to guests and external activities on Wednesday February 6 at 6:00am.

Athletics

The basketball game with Mary Baldwin will proceed as planned for Tuesday, February 3 (6pm) in Bryant Hall.  If you are on campus, please come out to cheer on the Spirits!

Harvest Table Dining Hours

• Monday-Tuesday: Abbreviated hours for the Refectory

  • Breakfast: 9:00–10:30

  • Lunch: 11:30–1:00

  • Dinner: 4:00–6:00

  • Special food offerings are planned in the Refectory.

• Wednesday – Friday:  Normal hours for the Refectory.

Student Health Services

Due to the winter storm, onsite Health Services will be CLOSED Tuesday, February 3, but providers are available for video visits.  Normal operations will resume Wednesday, February 4 unless otherwise noted.

Campus Access

The campus remains closed to external guests and events/activities until Wednesday, February 4 at 6:00am.

Impact to Salem IT Systems

• Information Technology will communicate any IT service outages.

Facilities and Emergencies

We strongly encourage all community members to ensure they are registered for Salem’s Emergency Alert System in order to receive timely text and email notifications.

Facilities staff are actively monitoring conditions and responding to snow, ice, and facility-related concerns. If you experience an emergency or have an urgent facilities request, please contact Public Safety at 336-917-5555.
