Salem College to Host Margaret and John Mueller Memorial Weekend

In collaboration with UNCSA, Salem College will host a two-day event celebrating the contributions of Salem College Professor Emerita Margaret Mueller and renowned UNCSA and Salem College Professor Emeritus John Mueller, both of whom had an invaluable influence on education and the organ music community.

The event will begin with a recital in Shirley Recital Hall on the evening of Friday, October 10. Salem Professors Timothy Olsen and Barbara Lister-Sink will perform, along with Jack Mitchener, who was John Mueller’s student and successor at UNCSA and Salem. Following the recital, there will be a reception in the gallery.

On Saturday, October 11, Jack Mitchener will lead a masterclass in Shirley Recital Hall for Salem and UNCSA students. The masterclass will be followed by a brunch at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (RSVP required). Saturday afternoon, international Bach scholar Russell Stinson will lecture and perform in Crawford Hall on the UNCSA campus. Saturday evening, Professor Timothy Olsen will perform a recital, also at Crawford Hall.

“The Muellers were icons in the Winston-Salem area and, indeed, well beyond. Their roles as professors, scholars, performers, colleagues, mentors, and friends touched musicians and music lovers near and far. Their legacy continues to this day,” said Olsen.

Saturday evening’s performance at Crawford Hall is open to the public. There is no charge to attend, but tickets must be reserved. If you plan to attend the other events of the weekend, including the brunch on Saturday, please RSVP.
