Salem College, Winston-Salem State University Announce New Academic Nursing Partnership

Winston-Salem, NC (February 6, 2025) – Salem College and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) announced a new partnership today that will create a direct pathway for Salem College students to enroll in WSSU’s Division of Nursing Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program.

This collaboration expands access to nursing education, streamlines the transition for aspiring nurses, and strengthens the healthcare workforce in North Carolina, in the nation, and around the globe.

Salem Academy and College President McGee and WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown signed the agreement during a Memorandum of Understanding ceremony today in the WSSU New Science Building.

The MOU will provide three guaranteed seats in WSSU’s ABSN program for eligible Salem College students each year for the next five years.

“As America’s health leadership college, Salem College is proud to partner with one of the best nursing programs in the region to offer our students a pathway to becoming clinicians and nurse leaders. We are grateful to WSSU for this opportunity to collaborate to address a vital workforce need for our region and our nation,” Salem Academy and College President Summer McGee said.

“Winston-Salem State has a proud legacy of producing outstanding nursing professionals. By joining forces with Salem College, we are leveraging our collective strengths to make an even greater impact in healthcare,” WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown said. “This collaboration also underscores our shared commitment to addressing the critical nursing shortage impacting both the state and the nation.”
