Reunion Weekend 2023

Salem Academy and College is gearing up for a great Reunion Weekend in April 2023. This year’s Reunion emphasizes reunion cycle classes ending in 3s and 8s, but all classes are welcome and encouraged to attend. Reunion 2023 will take place Friday, April 14, 2023 and Saturday, April 15, 2023 on the campus of Salem Academy and College, where they will be treated to a fun and informative slate of activities over the two days.

Friday, April 14 kicks off with the second annual “Health Leadership Forum” from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Salem Academy and College Elberson Fine Arts Center. The Forum convenes nationally recognized thought leaders in health who discuss current topics and trends in the health sector and the ways in which health impacts our society. The Katherine Graham Howard C’1917 keynote address will be given by Patrice Harris, MD, who is Chief Executive Officer of eMed and the former president of the American Medical Association, the first African American woman to hold the position. Her body of professional work focuses on diversity and health-related inequities and disparities. Panels of experts will discuss Human Rights and Environmental issues followed by a closing talk by Vanessa Northington Gamble, MD, Ph.D., University Professor of Medical Humanities at The George Washington University. Gamble is an expert on the history of American medicine, racial and ethnic disparities in health care, and public health ethics. For more information and to register visit hlf.Salem.edu.

Academy alums can take a fun tour of the Academy from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. with current Academy students and experience a day in the life in the new Academy facilities on Friday, April 14.

In the afternoon, alums from both the Academy and the College will have a chance to relive their college days at “My Favorite Lecture.” Two sessions offer the opportunity to attend compelling lectures without having to take notes or worry about a pending exam.

“Founders’ Day Convocation” for Academy and College alums will take place from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by a Reunion Weekend Kick-Off Reception from 5:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. A great time to mix and mingle with fellow alums, the reception includes a buffet dinner and a chance to hit the dance floor with Salem’s favorite band, The Black & Blue Experience.

The activities will continue on Saturday, April 15 with class photos in the morning. Academy alums can attend a “State of the Academy” presentation from Head of School Kris Sorrells and President Summer J. McGee, Ph.D., CPH. The Alumnae Association Meeting and Awards Luncheon for Academy and College alums will take place from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Saturday afternoon, Academy alums will have a chance to celebrate the varied careers and accomplishments of Academy alumnae at an “Alumnae Panel Meet and Greet” at 1:15 p.m. Any Academy alums who missed the student-led tours of the Academy on Friday have the option to tour on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

From 1:15 p.m. to 4 p.m., alums from the Academy and College will enjoy a “Salem Block Party” in the center of campus. There will be a special screening of the documentary, “Journey to Salem,” by Alex Klein C’08 in Huber Theater in the Student Center. In addition, alums can shop at the new Mercantile store and pop by the beer and wine tent or shop for beautifully crafted Salem items.

The Class of 1973, who are celebrating their 50th reunion will gather for a “Golden Alumnae Dinner” in Corrin Refectory. All previous Golden Dinner classes are invited.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the “Mathias Concert” at 7 p.m., which honors choral music at Salem Academy and College.

Saturday evening is set aside for each class to enjoy on their own with individual class reunions and class meetings.
