Brett Woods Named Dean of the College

Salem College has named Brett Woods, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College, effective July 5, 2023. Dr. Woods is a highly respected scientist, professor and academic administrator with extensive experience creating programs and implementing systems to increase inclusivity, student retention and student success. Dr. Woods was selected for this role at the conclusion of a highly competitive national search of more than 40 candidates, which included experienced deans and academic administrators from across the country.

Dr. Woods served as the Interim Dean of the Wanek School of Natural Sciences at High Point University, providing critical leadership at the height of the pandemic, from 2020 to 2022. Dr. Woods also served as Director of Pre Health Advising and Chair of the Biology Department at High Point University and presently serves as a tenured Associate Professor. Previously, Dr. Woods also served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned tenure in the Department of Biological Sciences. Dr. Woods earned a B.A. in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he received a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
