Salem College offers three degree programs to traditional undergraduate students: the bachelor of arts, the bachelor of science and the bachelor of music. A fourth degree program Ð the bachelor ofscience in business administration Ð is available to Fleer Cente rstudents. Every student has the option of electing a minor in addition to the chosen major.
Candidates or each degree must complete at least 36 courses for graduation. Most degrees also require that four January Term courses be included among the 36 courses, as well as two terms of non-credit physical education.A degree candidate must complete certain basic distribution requirements designed to ensure a breadth of study, a major and electives. A student generally declares her major by the end of the sophomore year and works closely with her department to complete her degree requirements.
Salem College operates on a 4-1-4 calendar. A degree program normally requires four years with four courses each term and one January Term course each academic year. To qualify for a degree, a student must take at least nine of the 36courses at Salem and at least eight of her last 10 courses at Salem.
All students entering Salem College participate in the Salem Signature, a leadership program designed to help Salem students think about the world beyond the classroom. This program features, over four years, such special interdisciplinary opportunities as the First Year Experience; the Global Awareness Seminar; a Service Learning Seminar; an Internship or Professional Development Experience; a course focused on Women's Roles; and during the senior year, a capstone interdisciplinary experience.
