For the safety of the campus community and your peers, students and their helpers must follow these expectations and guidelines during the move-in process:
Review and sign the Safety Acknowledgement for Fall Move-In representing that students and their helpers will abide by these COVID-19 Move-In Safety Expectations and Guidelines and will notify the Salem COVID Response Team and not enter campus if they meet any of the Conditions Requiring Move-In Rescheduling.
Complete the online COVID-19 Health and Safety Training module prior to move-in and by the deadline. This requirement is for students-only (not designated move-in helpers).
Complete Health Services COVID-19 screening as scheduled by Residence Life. At check-in, students and their helpers will be required (a) to complete a health screening with temperature check, and (b) to verify they have masks and gloves needed for move-in.
Wear cloth face coverings and gloves at all times while they are on campus for move-in. Students and helpers will be expected to bring their own cloth face coverings and gloves for move-in.
Maintain safe social distancing (at least 6 feet apart) from peers and other people while on campus at all times.
Remain in designated areas of campus for move-in and not venture to other parts of the building or other facilities during move-in. In order to allow cleaning between move-in shifts to the extent possible, students and helpers are asked to complete their move-in process as quickly as possible.
Follow COVID-19 campus signage for traffic flow during move-in. The residence halls will have signs posted indicating traffic flow expectations for exiting the buildings and stairwells in certain directions. Students and helpers will be expected to follow this signage for their safety.
For Incoming (New) Students, have no more than two (2) designated helpers to accompany them into their residence hall to assist with move-in.
For Returning Students, have no more than one (1) designated helper to accompany them into their residence hall to assist with move-in.
No other guests or visitors are permitted on campus during the move-in time. Students and helpers will not be permitted to park more than two (2) vehicles on campus during move-in.
Students needing special accommodations should submit their request to the following offices as applicable at least one (1) week prior to their scheduled move-in date:
Abide by all local, state, and/or federal restrictions, including stay-at-home orders during travel to and from campu and while in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
By August 1, 2020, notify the Salem COVID-19 Response Team (COVID19@salem.edu) of any international travel or cruise ship travel scheduled to occur within 14 days prior to move-in. Salem requires that individuals who have traveled internationally or by cruise ship prior to move-in quarantine for a period of 14 days prior to engaging in on-campus classes or activities.
Conditions Requiring Move-In Rescheduling
Students and move-in helpers shouldnotcometocampusformove-in if they meet any of the following criteria on the day of their scheduled move-in:
Have experienced COVID-19 symptoms within the 14-day period prior to scheduled move-in. For the 14 day period prior to and including your arrival date, students and their helpers must be able to respond “NO” to each of the following questions:
Have you had / do you have a fever or chills?
Have you had / do you have a cough?
Have you had / do you have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath?
Have you experienced / do you have a headache?
Have you experienced / do you have muscle or body aches or fatigue?
Have you had / do you have a sore throat?
Have you had / are you experiencing nausea or vomiting?
Have you had / are you experiencing diarrhea?
Have you lost / are you experiencing a new loss of your sense of taste or smell?
Have you had / are you experiencing nasal congestion or runny nose (not related to allergies)?
Have had COVID-19 and the home isolation period required by Salem has not expired. Salem requires that persons with COVID-19 symptoms or illness should remain in isolation until at least 14 days have passed since the symptoms first appeared, and such persons have been fever-free at least 3 days (72) hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, andat least 3 days have passed since such persons experienced improvement in other symptoms. For persons who tested positive for COVID-19 but never experienced any symptoms, such persons may return to campus 10 days after the date of their positive test.
Have had “close contact” (defined as within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) in the last 14 days with someone that has a suspected or lab confirmed case of COVID-19.
Have been directed by a healthcare provider or health department to quarantine within the last 14 days.
Have traveled internationally or on a cruise ship within the last 14 days.
Were not cleared for move-in by Health Services during the COVID-19 screening. Any students or helpers who are not cleared for move-in by Health Services during the campus entry health screening will be required to reschedule their move-in subject to any required testing, quarantine, or isolation directives.
If students or their helpers meet any of the conditions in 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 at the time of their scheduled move-in, students and their helpers must not come to campus and must notify the Salem COVID-19 Response Team at COVID19@salem.edu to discuss quarantine and isolation requirements and to schedule an alternative move-in time. Students or helpers who meet condition 6 will be directed to return to their homes and schedule an alternative move-in date or quarantine or isolate on-campus as directed by Health Services. It is imperative that students and helpers understand and follow these conditions for the health and safety of their peers and our school community.
