With the changing status of the pandemic, Housing and Residence Life at Salem has been working to make decisions with students’ health and safety as our top priority. For the welfare of campus residents and the Salem community and to aid in preventing the spread of COVID-19, the following housing guidelines will apply for the 2021-2021 academic year.
Density and Housing Assignments
To promote social distancing and to reduce residence hall density, Residence Life has increased the number of single rooms available to students. Where single rooms were not available, campus housing is standard occupancy as applicable for each residence hall.
Roommate Communication and Respect
Students living with roommates will be expected to build on the communication and respect aspects of roommate agreements, adhering to commitments of cleanliness, responsibility, and accountability consistent with Salem’s health and safety protocols.
Residence Hall Rooms
Furniture in the residence hall rooms is set up to promote maximum distance between roommates and cannot be rearranged.
Visitors and Guests
Limited visitation will apply for Fall 2021 with plans to reevaluate permissions for second semester. Residential students will be permitted one guest per room with visitation ending daily at midnight. No visitors or guests will be permitted to stay overnight in the residence halls. Overnight guests for campus wide events will be considered and communicated accordingly.
Guests are required to complete the Residence Hall Only - Guest and Visitor Safety Acknowledgment online for their visit to campus. Students must ensure they have signed their guest in and out of the visitation books located in the lobbies of each residence hall.
All guests will be required to use face coverings and follow policies, including COVID-19 policies on campus.
Students are encouraged to limit unnecessary personal travel and to notify Residence Life of any planned international or cruise ship travel for further instruction regarding quarantine requirements.
Personal Behavior and Hygiene
Students will be expected to practice high standards of personal behavior and hygiene to protect each other and all within the greater campus community.
Cleaning and Disinfection
While cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces, bathrooms, and common spaces in use will be undertaken by the Physical Plant, students will be expected to clean and sanitize their personal spaces.
Quarantine and Isolation Spaces
Salem will provide on-campus quarantine and isolation spaces for residential students who are required to quarantine or isolate. Students will be required to follow Salem’s quarantine and isolation policies as a condition of living in campus residence halls.
