Every year, the Department of Public Safety publishes Salem’s Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The annual crime statistics report includes information on the previous three years about reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Salem; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault and other matters.
The Clery Act requires any college or university receiving federal financial aid to list the number of reported occurrences of specific crimes, as well as a variety of security and crime-related information. See ED.gov’s page on campus security for more information.
