Violinist Laura Blankenship joined the faculty of the Salem Community Music School in the fall of 2018. Originally from Kernersville, North Carolina, she has an exciting career as a teacher, orchestral musician, and chamber musician throughout the state.
Laura’s degrees include an MM in Violin Performance from the University of Wyoming and a BM in Violin Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Laura is the Principal Second Violin of both the Salisbury Symphony and the North Carolina Chamber Orchestra, and she is a member of the Fayetteville Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony, and Carolina Philharmonic. She has also held the position of Assistant Orchestra Librarian at Eastern Music Festival since the summer of 2014.
Teaching is one of Laura’s passions and fascinations, and she teaches beginning through advanced students. She loves helping students find their own way of understanding music and violin playing through games, stories, funny words, drawing, and other silliness. She believes more learning happens when music is fun and is always impressed by her students’ creativity. Her students have won places in the Honors All-County and Honors Western-Regional orchestras in North Carolina for both middle and high school.
