Julie was born in Zug, Switzerland, and moved to Kingsport, Tennessee when she was in elementary school. Her older sister attended a women’s college, so she was open to the idea of including at least one women’s college on her search list. She can vividly recall her initial visit to Salem’s campus when she turned to her Dad and said, “This is where I want to go to school.” While at Salem, Julie was active in student life, served on the honor council, worked as a hall advisor, and took advantage of every travel opportunity available. She traveled with a Salem class to China during a January term and spent the fall semester of her junior year in Oxford, England. After graduating with a BA in Sociology and Communications, Julie worked for Salem as an admissions counselor for 2 years traveling throughout the Southeast.
Julie brings extensive knowledge from the corporate world where she worked in both the banking and life insurance industry in the human resources and corporate training and development fields. Her work experience also includes time with the local chamber of commerce, serving as the admissions director for a private school for special needs children, and being self-employed as a corporate trainer. Julie is a mother and avid community volunteer. She loves to garden and attend App State football games. Her annual Salem “Girls Weekend” is always a favorite time of year for her – it never gets old spending time with the lifelong friends she made as a first-year student at Salem many years ago.
As the Director of Admissions, Julie reads every single application for admission and works hard every day to ensure that current high school students have the same positive admissions experience she had years ago when she said YES to Salem!
