Joy Rushton

Instructor of Voice for the Community Music School

Joy joined Salem Academy as Music Director in 2007. She holds a B.S. in Music Education from West Chester University School of Music. She also has studied at Butler University Jordan School of Fine Arts and Indiana University School of Music. She has previous teaching experience at The American School in Switzerland, as well as public, private and charter schools in NC. Joy has also worked for several years as a professional actress with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and other theatres in the southeast. Joy has studied with Dr. David Flood, Choir Master at Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury England and Dr. Christopher Gray, Choir Master at Truro Cathedral in Truro England- both experts in treble voices. In addition to her full-time teaching schedule at Salem, she is also the founder and director of “Victorian Voices” and “The White Christmas Carolers”.
