Jennifer hails from the bayous of Louisiana and brought with her to North Carolina the tenacity and love of spicy foods for which most Cajuns are known. Following her passion for science, she earned a BS in Biology from Louisiana State University in 2005 and an MS in Molecular Genetics from Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts and Science in 2009. While Jennifer has a passion for science, she did not love being a scientist, so after a one-year fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, Jennifer decided to move back to Winston-Salem.
During her time in graduate school, Jennifer fell in love with Winston-Salem and its rich cultural roots. Also during that time, she discovered her talents in communication and a desire to help people get to know their community. This led her to work as Director of Marketing and Communications at Old Salem Museums and Gardens from 2010 to 2014. In 2014, Jennifer “crossed the square” and joined the Salem College Admissions team as Director of Transfer Recruitment and Special Events. In addition to recruitment and event planning, Jennifer also enjoys coordinating Salem’s alumnae admissions representative network and using technology to help make life easier for everyone in the office.
Jennifer is an avid crossword puzzle solver with a penchant for Spanish olives. She is married to Jerry Chapman, a Winston-Salem native, and full-time musician, and she is “bonus mom” to two amazing kids, Matthew and Georgia. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys volunteering and planning fundraisers for local non-profit organizations.
