Art History

One of the defining characteristics of Salem’s Department of Art, Art History, and Design is closeness. Students and professors alike have an uncommon passion for the study and practice of art and design in all forms and therefore have established a tightly knit community of friends and learners. While it is one of Salem’s larger departments, art, art history, and design classes rarely exceed thirty students, with most upper-level classes numbering five to ten students.

Three Salem College faculty members are joining more than 60 female writers, playwrights, dancers, choreographers, filmmakers, musicians and craftswomen for the inaugural Ruby Slipper Fringe Festival in downtown Winston-Salem.

The Salem College Debate Team advanced to the semi-final round as one of four colleges with the most wins at North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities’ fifth annual Ethics Bowl held February 5 and 6 in Raleigh.

In honor of the 30th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day, female athletes of all ages and abilities will be recognized during half-time of the Salem College vs. Mary Baldwin College basketball game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Salem Academy and College Gymnasium.

Helen Simoneau Danse, a Winston-Salem-based dance company with strong New York City ties and an international presence, will be holding an open rehearsal at the Salem College Dance Studio on February 6, 2016, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
