This is not your typical “everything is fine” message. We can all agree that Salem has drastically changed within the past year. We began the spring 2020 semester in classrooms and dorms, full of excitement. During Spring Break, we received the gut-wrenching news that classes would continue online. We persisted. America believed the worst of COVID-19 was over in the summer, and students began packing for the fall semester.
We then received the dreaded email that we would continue yet another semester online. We have been resilient. I know we have all heard that word over and over…but it is true, Salem students ARE resilient. We have been able to withstand the difficult positions that we have been put in and are flourishing in our courses. I know that many students, both traditional and Fleer, are upset that we will not be on campus in the spring, but we must remember that this decision is for the greater good.
We must think of our Salem Siblings and faculty. Yes, this experience has, frankly, sucked, but because of it we are stronger than ever. We will graduate and will do it with an experience that coming generations will not believe.
Stay safe, be kind to others, and take care of yourselves.
