After discovering that Winston-Salem is home to the oldest educational institution for girls and women in the nation, C-SPAN’s American History TV producers knew they couldn’t leave the city without capturing the story of Salem’s Single Sisters.
The segment will air throughout C-SPAN’s special Winston-Salem weekend, March 17-18.

On Friday, March 2 students, faculty and staff at Salem College invited the community to witness their annual Black History Month Finale Show.
A culmination of several programs held through the year, the finale show is annually sponsored by Salem’s BADU (Black Americans Demonstrating Unity) organization. This year’s event, held inside the Hanes Auditorium, had enough entertainment to keep the entire family engaged.

For the second year in a row, Salem College came out the victor in the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities’ Ethics Bowl.
“These women worked extremely long hours, beyond their normal academic schedule to compete in this year’s bowl,” said Alyson Francisco, Mary Ardrey Stough Kimbrough Chair in Business and Economics and Director of the Center for Women in Business.
Salem’s Debate team competed against 21 other private colleges during the annual Ethics Bowl last month. Watch the highlights here.
Salem Academy and College is proud to present New York Times international bestselling author Kate Moore in conversation with Salem’s own award-winning author Megan E. Bryant on Tuesday, March 13 in the Elberson Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. The event is co-sponsored with Bookmarks. Moore and Bryant will discuss the “Radium Girls,” a group of American women from the Roaring Twenties who were poisoned by the radium paint they worked with and who courageously fought for justice.
The program is free and open to the public. Bookmarks will have books available on-site with a signing to follow.
