Salem College to Welcome First-Year Students and Families at Orientation

July 8, 2022

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (JULY 8, 2022)—Salem College will hold its first summer orientation for more than 100 first-year students and their families at three upcoming in-person sessions. The expected number of attendees is up 185% percent from the last orientation in fall 2021. Incoming students will have the option of attending in-person orientation on Salem Academy and College’s campus on either Saturday, July 9 or Saturday, July 16. In addition, Salem College will offer a virtual orientation option on Saturday, July 23.

During the first two weekends, orientation will begin at 9 a.m. in Hanes Auditorium inside the Elberson Fine Arts Center with welcome remarks by Salem Academy and College President Summer J. McGee, Ph.D. and other campus leaders. Following the welcome, students will have an opportunity to access a variety of campus information, including financial aid, student life and library resources ahead of the fall semester.

After lunch and yard games, incoming students will participate in afternoon sessions with a focus on academic advising and student success. The afternoon also features special sessions for parents and for Spanish-speaking families. Orientation will conclude from 3 to 4 p.m. with a mingle event for incoming students and their families and a special social event for student-athletes.

“All our orientation events are focused on welcoming first-year students and their families to Salem Academy and College’s beautiful campus and creating a supportive environment that will ensure student success when the fall semester begins in just a few weeks,” Acting Dean of Students, Salem College Director of Student Engagement, Orientation and Intercultural Education Victoria Burgos said. “During orientation, families will also have the opportunity to interact with legacy parents to ask questions and learn more about student life at Salem College.”

Incoming residential students will move into Salem College residence halls on August 19 and fall semester classes begin on August 22.
