Salem College’s Pierrette Players Present “Julius Caesar” March 5-7

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (FEBRUARY 14, 2020)—The Pierrette Players at Salem College will present Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” March 5, 6, and 7 at 8 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. at the Drama Workshop in the Elberson Fine Arts Center at 500 East Salem Avenue in Winston-Salem, NC. This is a ticketed event with tickets available at the door 30 minutes prior to each performance. Tickets are $5 for Salem students with valid ID, $7 for outside college students and Salem faculty with valid ID, and $10 general admission. Runtime is expected to be approximately 110 minutes with intermission.

“Julius Caesar” is one of Shakespeare’s most acclaimed tragedies, detailing the murder of Julius Caesar in a historical account of duty, honor, and betrayal. It is 44 B.C. in ancient Rome, and political turmoil is on the mind of every citizen—for many are vying for control of the great Empire, even as infighting grows more insidious among the senate. As the great general Caesar gains more authority and admiration, a group of conspirators sway his close friend Brutus to assassinate him for the good of Roman democracy. Yet the one man who may have united Rome by living has as much power to divide it by his death.

The Pierrette Players are the oldest student club at Salem College and the oldest all-women’s theatre company in the Triad, officially recognized since 1913. The Pierrettes perform two student-led productions each academic school year in accordance with their mission to provide empowering, representative, and quality theatre by and for the Winston-Salem community.
