Dear Salem College community,

We are writing to let you know that Director of Athletics Melissa Barrett will be leaving Salem on June 2, 2017. She has accepted the position of senior associate director of athletics at Queens University of Charlotte. Associate Athletic Director Betsy Pryor will serve as interim director of athletics at Salem College until the search for a permanent replacement is completed.

Ms. Barrett joined Salem as director of athletics in February 2011, and she has had a significant impact on Salem’s athletic program in the last six years. Under her capable leadership, the Salem Spirits have distinguished themselves as outstanding student-athletes, appearing in six NCAA tournaments and capturing the Great South Athletic Conference Presidents’ Cup for overall athletic excellence for three out of four years. In 2015, Ms. Barrett successfully guided Salem through the extensive application process for acceptance into the USA South Athletic Conference.

Please join us in thanking Melissa Barrett for her outstanding contributions to Salem College and in wishing her the best as she begins this new chapter in her career.
