Salem Academy and College has received a gift of $1.5 million from the Reynolds American Foundation to help fund the Women in Science and Mathematics initiative, one of Salem’s highest priorities in its Women of Purpose campaign. One million dollars of the gift will support the construction of a new sciences and mathematics building, and $500,000 will fund scholarships for Salem College students with demonstrated financial need.

“We are delighted to receive this extremely generous gift from the Reynolds American Foundation, and we are grateful for their support of Salem’s plans for the future. Their generosity is helping us to reach our goals of building a state-of-the-art facility for the study of mathematics and science and providing our students with opportunities to obtain an outstanding education in these disciplines,” said D. E. Lorraine Sterritt, PhD, President of Salem Academy and College.

Salem Academy and College’s Women of Purpose campaign has raised more than half of its $60 million goal, which includes $40 million for infrastructure and technology improvements and $5 million for scholarships.
