Salem College will offer a series of summer classes as part of the Courses for Community Series. Taking place in July and August, the offerings include SAT Prep and two, five-day, art courses.
SAT Prep - Math and Critical Reading and Writing
Perform up to your potential on the SAT and learn strategies for successfully taking tests. Classes are taught on the Salem College campus.
Option I:
Verbal/Writing: Monday - Friday, July 14 - 18, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Math: Monday - Friday, July 14 - 18, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Option II:
Verbal/Writing: Monday - Friday, July 21 - 25, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Math: Monday - Friday, July 21 - 25, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Students will have a one-hour midday break for lunch on their own and are welcome to bring a snack for class breaks. Each course is five sessions. Option I and II courses can be interchanged to meet the busy teen lifestyle. They are completed prior to the October 11, 2014, SAT testing date. Barron’s SAT, 26th Edition is a required text that must be purchased prior to starting the class at the campus bookstore or online. Pre-registration is required.
$225 per course or $400 for any two [Math/Verbal-Writing]
Sketching with Colored Pencils
Join us for five enjoyable mornings capturing the special mood of lovely Old Salem. Bring a drink and a light snack, a towel to sit on, a small drawing pad, an eraser, a number 2 pencil and a colored pencil set. For ages 7-11.
Monday - Friday, August 4 - 8, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $100
Answer the Artist Within: Drawing and Painting in Plein Air
Summer is awash with color in Old Salem, from the flowers lining the cobblestone paths, to the rich gardens and historical buildings dappled with sunlight. Salem awaits “the artist within” each of us. Whether you are a beginning or an experienced artist, you will enjoy this relaxing outdoor course. Bring a refreshing drink, a snack and a light-weight lawn chair, along with art supplies. Class size is limited. Materials needed: Paint supplies for your favorite medium (watercolor, acrylic or oils) or drawing supplies (pencil, charcoal, colored pencil or chalk).
