Salem Student Finalist in National Competition

Salem Student Finalist in National Competition

January 30, 2013

During the January Term course on playwright Thornton Wilder, students in the class taught by Dr. Edyta Oczkowicz created  video adaptations of Wilder's three-minute plays. The videos were entered in the Wilder Wilder Everywhere competition sponsored by Playscripts, Inc., and the Wilder family. Of the dozens of entries submitted nationwide, the video produced by Salem senior Qiana Johnson was chosen as one of the five finalists.

The video is an adaptation of “Brother Fire,” a playlet written by Wilder in 1916. Johnson's video was selected based on receiving “likes” by voters on the competition's Facebook page. The winner, who will be announced on Feb. 8, will receive a $1,000 prize.
