The latest book in the Sister Maus children’s series by author and illustrator John Hutton, Flowers for Mr. President, is now available.
The book continues the story of Sister Maus, who lives in the Single Sisters House in Salem. Sister Maus and her friend Emma, a student at the Girls School, get the chance to meet President George Washington when he visits Salem to make a speech.
The beautifully illustrated hardcover features watercolor images of Old Salem and buildings on the Salem College campus. Much of the story and characters are based on actual events and people from Salem’s history.
Author John Hutton, who has taught in the art department of Salem College since 1990, has written and illustrated several books for children, including the other three Sister Maus books—Sister Maus (2006), Christmas Maus (2008) and Easter Maus (2010). The books are published by Salem Academy and College and are available at Old Salem and on the Salem College website. The books retail for $20 each or $85 for a limited edition boxed set of the complete series.
