Salem Assistant Dean of Students, Leslie Rogers, was appointed to the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities' College Access and Success Initiatives (CASI) evaluation committee. The committee will work to develop forms, processes, and procedures to guide, direct, and assess the work done by independent colleges to assist in their persistence, retention and graduation.

Salem Director of Career Development, Esther Gonzalez-Freeman, was appointed to the NCICU Model Minority Mentoring Committee. The committee will develop various models of programs aimed at mentoring minority students based on common characteristics among campuses, such as demographics and enrollment data. NCICU anticipates the creation of three to five model minority programs that will be developed and shared among NCICU member institutions. 

The designation included a $2,500 grant to fund preliminary activities for a minority mentoring initiative on campus.

The NCICU represents independent higher education in the areas of state and federal public policy and on education issues with the other sectors of education in the state. They also provide research and information to and about private colleges and universities, conduct staff development opportunities and coordinate collaborative programs.
