The Salem College Rotaract Club is celebrating Salem’s 240th anniversary by helping promote literacy in the Winston-Salem community. The club is sponsoring the 240 Books for 240 Years project, a book drive to collect 240 (or more) books for distribution at two needy local schools.
The club has set up donation boxes across campus and hopes to collect at least 240 books by April 15. This is just one of many service projects carried out by the club this year. During spring break, several members of the club traveled to the Dominican Republic to help build a playground for special needs children.
The Salem College Rotaract Club is one of the most active in the region with a strong level of support from the prestigious Winston-Salem Rotary Club. Several members of Salem’s club recently received the high honor of being inducted into the Winston-Salem club. The club also received grants of $14,000 from Rotary International and $4,000 from the Winston-Salem Rotary Club to help fund service projects.
