Rotaract Club Plans Dominican Republic Service Trip

February 28, 2012

The Salem College Rotaract Club continues its ongoing dedication to serving both the local community and the world with an upcoming service trip to the Dominican Republic. Twelve members of the Salem chapter of the club, which is affiliated with Rotary International, will travel to the Caribbean nation March 17-23.
While there, they will work with Mission Emmanuel, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of the Dominican people by providing health care, education and better living conditions. The Salem group will work directly with Mission Emmanuel’s Physical Therapy Center by building a handicap-accessible playground for children suffering from physical disabilities and developmental issues. This playground will impact more than 600 children in Santo Domingo.

To help fund the trip, club members wrote a grant that was awarded last fall in the amount of $17,000 and they've participated in a number of fundraising events. For more information, email salemrotaract@gmail.com.
