Salem Breaks Ground for New Student Center

December 13, 2012

Salem College broke ground on Tuesday, December 18 for a new student center.  The college’s Board of Trustees recently voted to proceed with construction, slated for completion in the spring of 2014.

This new facility will showcase a vibrant campus and act as a hub for student activity. The student center will feature a café, bookstore, theater, student lounge, meeting rooms and a student organizational workroom. Lambert Architecture + Interiors has designed the $6.8 million project that will be built by Frank L. Blum Construction to be modern and open while reflecting Salem’s historic roots. Located adjacent to Corrin Refectory and Bryant Hall, this will be the first new building erected on Salem’s campus since 1982.

"At Salem, our students are the heart of our mission. We are delighted that the new center will be located in the heart of campus and will provide a hub for student events and gatherings. It is especially appropriate that our newest building will pay tribute to one of our core values--community--and we look forward to generations of students and friends enjoying the new facility in the future,” says Susan Pauly, President of Salem Academy and College, who will speak at the ceremony along with individuals representing several partnering companies.
