Salem College assistant professor of biology Dane Kuppinger joined local videographer Gregg Jamback and photographer Carl Galie for a multimedia presentation on the topic of coal and mountaintop removal, on January 5 at Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem. As part of the synagogue's environmental movie night, Jamback screened his documentary, "The Real Cost of Coal" and Galie shared photos from his exhibition, "Lost on the Road to Oblivion." Both the film and photos depict the destruction of mountaintops due to coal mining. Kuppinger, who teaches a class on coal at Salem, joined the two for a discussion of the practice and its environmental effects.
