May 23, 2010

A new major, in Public Policy; a minor, in Sport Management; and a new certificate program in Historic Preservation are joining the roster of exciting additions to Salem’s academic curriculum for fall 2010. Also, there will be a choice of a two types of bachelor's degrees within the new Exercise Science major.

The Public Policy major program will offer three concentrations: economic and social policy; policy analysis and implementation; and government and policy. There are already significant professional career opportunities in the public policy/government sector, and this trend is expected to continue in the future, particularly for women who tend to favor public-service careers at higher rates than their male counterparts.

Within Exercise Science, the B.A. degree is designed for students interested in working in the health field, personal training, corporate fitness, wellness or other sport- and exercise-related fields, while the B.S. degree in is for students interested in attending graduate school in science-related health fields).

The new minor in Sport Management is designed to give students more depth in the field of sport management. Courses available will include sport marketing, women in sport, business statistics, business law and business ethics.
