A 750-seat auditorium, Hanes Auditorium functions as the primary space for services for the entire college. The annual Candlelight Service, Opening Convocation, Mathias Choral Concert, as well as numerous academic functions are held here. Community groups also utilize the wonderful acoustic and performance space of Hanes Auditorium. The 1965 Holtkamp pipe organ and the 1988 Steinway “D” concert grand piano serve as the primary instruments for campus services, ceremonies and concerts.
Directly across the Art Gallery from Hanes Auditorium is Shirley Recital Hall, a 220-seat recital hall with a warm yet vibrant acoustic. This performance space is the primary recital hall for student and faculty recitals including the Sandresky Artist Faculty Series. The hall features an extraordinarily beautiful 1936 Steinway “D” concert grand piano, the historic 1965 Flentrop pipe organ (which is currently undergoing renovation), and a two-manual Dowd harpsichord.
