Nature, life, and death stood at the core of poetry and philosophy in the German Romantic era. In turn, contemporary ecophilosophy investigates biological influences, such as biologically oriented psychology, on the production and reception of artworks. Rory Bradley, visiting assistant professor of German at Wake Forest University, will apply this recent trend in literary criticism to a selection of texts. In the spirit of Denise Gigante, Bradley will discuss the theme of power over life, as reflected in the literature, recognizing also that the literature took life as its object.
