Center for Women Writers Presents The Salon Series: Reading and Presentation

This series, part of the Beverly Pritchard Lecture Series, examines the intersections between written work and visual work by bringing artists together with writers to discuss ideas and obsessions that lend power to the creative arts.

Marcia Jones earned an MFA in painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Jones served as a W. E. B. DuBois Faculty Fellow at Clark Atlanta University, where she was a lecturing professor of art, and attended the Caversham Printmaking Fellowship in South Africa, where she served as a visiting artist at the University of Kwazulu Natal. In 2011 Jones was selected as the McColl Center for Visual Arts Harvey B. Gantt Winter Resident in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Colleen J. McElroy, professor emeritus at the University of Washington, has received a Before Columbus American Book Award, as well as two Fulbright and NEA fellowships. Her most recent publications are A Long Way From St. Louie (travel memoirs), Blood Memory (poems), and Over the Lip of the World: Among the Storytellers of Madagascar (non-fiction). Her work has been featured in The Oxford Anthology of African American PoetryNorton Anthology of Contemporary African American Poetry, and others.

Sheree Renée Thomas, a Memphian, is a 2016 Tennessee Arts Fellow. Her work has appeared in Memphis Noir, Mythic Delirium, Stories for Chip, The New York Times, and Harvard’s Transition. She edited a winner of the World Fantasy Award, the Dark Matteranthologies. Her Shotgun Lullabies: Stories & Poems was published by Aqueduct Press in its Conversation Pieces series.
