Incunabula is the arts magazine of the Salem College community and consists of creative works (arts, music, prose, poetry, and photography) submitted by Salem students, alumnae, faculty, and special guests. The staff members gather submissions, proofread, and edit the magazine. New staff members are welcomed each year.
The Salemite, has been serving the Salem community since 1920. In keeping with Salem’s tradition of open and thorough communications, The Salemite keeps the campus informed of events both within and beyond the Square. Some opportunities available to staff members include writing articles, selling advertisements, drawing graphics, taking pictures, and working on the layout of the paper. The Salemite accepts articles written by any Salem student. To submit an article or request a staff application, email thesalemite@gmail.com.
Sights & Insights is Salem’s yearbook. It includes the major events of the year. Students are needed for photography, artwork, design layout, and to sell advertising.
In 2015, Salem launched its branch of Odyssey. Odyssey is a social content platform that crowdsources ideas from millennial thought leaders in their local communities. It surfaces a rich and otherwise untapped diversity of stories and viewpoints to share with an audience hungry for a variety of perspectives.
In 2015, Salem inducted its first group of inductees for Salem’s Chapter of Society for Collegiate Journalists. The honor society works with the publications on campus and hosts a yearly conference. In order to be eligible to join, students must have at least a year’s experience on a Salem College publication and be nominated by an editor.
The Publications Board is composed of the editors for Incunabula, The Salemite, and Sights & Insights in addition to the SGA Treasurer and Secretary. They review publications issues on campus and facilitate the publication of student work.
