Salem Academy and College, the oldest continuously operating educational institution for girls and women in the country by its founding date of 1772, invites applications for Interim Chaplain.

Position Summary:

The Interim Chaplain reports to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College and provides leadership in the development and implementation of a program for campus ministry and spiritual life. This position provides support for the Academy and College participating in institutional ceremonies. This is a 10-month, part-time, non-exempt position that follows the academic calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serve as a liaison with administration for crisis management
• Initiate and participate in the development of campus spiritual life programming
• Plan, organize, and conduct College worship experiences and Academy chapel services
• Participate in Academy and College ceremonial functions and worship events
• Incorporate student wellness through the prism of spirituality into co-curricular experiences by partnering with Student Affairs and other institutional colleagues
• Assist with building out health leadership in the co-curriculum
• Serve as chair of the College Interfaith Council
• Coordinate and collaborate with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
• Support Salem constituencies by holding regular office hours and participating in
• campus-wide events
• Work to foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration among the Salem community; and
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in theology, ministry, or a closely related field.
• Occasional evening and weekend hours
• Ability to build and maintain relationships fostering an environment of mutual respect,
• understanding, and trust;
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, written and oral; and
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.

Physical Functions:

• The ability to meet and communicate with employees and campus constituents in the performance of the essential duties and responsibilities;
• The ability to work at a computer for extended periods;
• The ability to work on campus and in an office setting; or to work remotely, be able to communicate and meet via Zoom or a similar application, and be willing to travel to campus periodically, as deemed necessary or appropriate by the President.
