Salem Academy and College, the oldest continuously operating educational institution for girls and women in the country by its founding date of 1772, invites applications for HR Generalist. The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) provides HR support to faculty, staff, and student workers. The primary focus is on posting open positions internally and externally, onboarding, assisting with the talent management process, and general HR support including data entry, data reporting, and analytics. The HRG will exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance and be responsible for other HR duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources and Benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the talent acquisition process is followed; Recruits and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with search committees and departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. Posts open positions, completes onboarding activities for all new hires including the pre-employment obligations such as background checks and employment eligibility verifications; reconciles open/closed jobs and onboarding new employees; also assists with completing annual faculty appointment letters.
- Responsible for implementation and maintenance of Applicant Tracking System.
- Assist with performing routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Assist Director of Human Resources and Benefits with employee relation matters to include disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Assist Director of Human Resources and Benefits with facilitation of and/or providing employee training for various HR policies and processes.
- Helps to maintain the HRIS and compiles reports from the system regularly to identify gaps or make recommendations.
- Responsible for annual performance evaluation process including communicating with supervisors and employees about how to complete the reviews and ensuring reviews are completed.
- Responsible for FMLA management, reporting and tracking.
- Responsible for benefit enrollment, reporting and bill reconciliation.
- Responsible for learning management system oversight including enrollment, assignment and tracking.
- Responsible for workers’ compensation claims and OSHA 300 reporting
- Provides back-up support to HR Payroll Administrator by processing payroll when needed.
- Assists Director of Human Resources and Benefits with keeping abreast of federal and state regulations regarding all HR/employment matters
- As assigned, participates in campus-wide events to represent the Department of Human Resources
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field required.
- 3-5 years HR Generalist experience with working knowledge of all functional areas within the HR Life Cycle
- Knowledge of HRIS (Proliant, Paycom, or other)
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities upon request.
- Confidentiality maintained at all times.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Dependable, prompt, able to work with all members of the college community.
- SPECIAL WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: When the college is closed, certain duties require computer access from home.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years HR experience in higher education
- PHR or SHRM-CP a plus
Physical Functions:
While performing the responsibilities of the HR Generalist, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; and work in an office setting.
